"By
replacing four separate applications, we will gain substantial operational
efficiency and maximise the value of our broadcast assets. For example,
adopting the ad sales modules will allow us to improve yield on
commercial inventory by providing staff with access to up-to-date
information and the ability to optimise airtime availability. In
thus improving our responsiveness to clients' changing needs,
such a system is 100% beneficial to us and we are delighted to work
with Pilat Media" said Kevin Green, Group Financial Controller.
TV3 will utilise IBMS to streamline and integrate its programme
content, ad sales and traffic management operations, to progress
from process-orientated functions to value-oriented functions, thereby
eliminating duplication of data and automating manual processes.
Using a wholly integrated approach, more informed business decisions
can be made by the sales, programming, promotions, and operations
departments. Previously, due to deficiencies in the current systems
and processes it was not possible to integrate all of these departments.

"IBMS's
ability to handle generic multi-source content allows effective
management of all types of media components, thus enabling us to
easily create a single channel schedule to broadcast up to 12 different
languages for Pan European coverage at the transport cost of just
one channel," said Jonathan Try, VP Broadcast Operations &
Engineering, Digital Media Centre (DMC).
The DMC in Amsterdam provides a full range of broadcast services
for channel production, origination and distribution. Providing
multi-lingual and highly integrated alternatives to more traditional
broadcast solutions the DMC offers end-to-end facilities all the
way from concept to delivery. The DMC is part of UPC Programming
B.V.
In October 2000, the DMC launched its complete server-based, full
production service and playout facility which is designed to originate
and playout up to 64 television channels, each with up to 16 separate
audio tracks to support almost any multi-language, multi-territory
television broadcast requirement. 16-track audio capability permits
up to 4 stereo and 8 monaural audio streams, providing simultaneous
support for up 12 different languages.

"The
combination of Oracle 9i RAC and IBMS provides a cost effective
and easily scalable solution to meet the needs of today's growing
business requirements without constantly upgrading or replacing
expensive hardware. 9i RAC is now being implemented by clients in
the Pacific region" said Bob Lamb, Chief Technology Officer,
Pilat Media.
As IBMS is a mission-critical 24/7 system, many clients also utilise
a standby server for backup. By adopting the 9i RAC infrastructure,
clients can maximise the use of their existing hardware through
a load-sharing production environment. By exploiting clustered hardware
configurations, Oracle RAC allows access to a single IBMS database
from multiple nodes to insulate application users from hardware
failures, whilst providing performance that scales with the hardware
environment.
The new Oracle 9i extensions allow IBMS increased flexibility in
integrating with neighbouring systems. The XML DB component removes
the dependence on file-based interfacing, thus enabling real-time
data transfer between IBMS and third party systems.
