Where Pilat Media products replace an older system, data will require reformatting and transferring to a new database. Likewise, data currently held in separate systems, including spreadsheets and paper systems will need to be loaded. Procedures and computer programs that can automate and streamline the data conversion/migration need to be prepared. Where automation is not cost effective, manual data entry should be planned and resourced. Often, data has to be cleaned and/or manipulated on its way to the new integrated and relational database.

Pilat Media's specialized Data Migration team has accumulated extensive experience working with clients around the world, migrating data from various source systems, including the cleaning, reformatting and uploading of data to suit our relational databases. Our well-developed methodology and tools in this area have been successfully used to implement data migration projects, which are notoriously more complex than originally envisaged and therefore difficult to estimate in advance. We have gained invaluable experience in converting data from other systems and will work with your system experts and other data creators to: map the existing data against the new data entities and fields, manage the process and automate the data upload as much as possible.

We seek to set realistic objectives for data migration with the view to achieving an acceptable result. A definition of what is acceptable is agreed at an early stage; this may lead to the decision to manually key in some of the data entities to be migrated to increase predictability and secure quality.
