IBMS Technology

IBMS is a 'server centric' client-server application built on a single Oracle database serving all application modules. The architecture comprises three layers: the data repository (stored in Oracle); the business rules (also managed by Oracle as 'stored procedures and packages'); and a Windows user interface.

Robust
IBMS is designed to support business-critical processes reliably and without interruption, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This total guarantee of application robustness is achieved through simplicity of internal design, tight integration of components and carefully optimized use of Oracle's features.
Since all data is consolidated into a single database instance, all of the advanced Oracle security mechanisms are at your disposal.
Scalable
With a wide choice of hardware platforms, operating under Linux, UNIX or NT, and support for Oracles Real Application Clustering (RAC) technology, IBMS provides a scalable and highly cost-effective solution for small and large network operations and for the simplest or most complex of workflows. By supporting multiple channels, stations, regions, time zones, languages and currencies, IBMS is designed for growing broadcast operations.
Configurable
IBMS lets customers configure their applications to meet their business needs without changing the internal application code. This reduces implementation time and makes it easier to take advantage of upgrades, new features or changes within your broadcast business without having to invest in expensive redevelopment.
Open and accessible
IBMS is an open system, easily connectable to neighboring systems through a combination of pre-built interfaces and an open API. For example, we support and encourage the use of specialized reporting and analytical tools to maximize data exploitation and increase client self-sufficiency. VPN linking is often used by many IBMS clients to support remote usage, and browser access is available to key business areas of the system (e.g. the Schedule), and other functions can easily be redefined for Internet use.
Oracle
IBMS's Oracle-based server-centric architecture provides:
  • Inherent Technical and Development advantages

    • Less components to integrate and interface

    • Less potential failure points

    • Less communication/Network traffic overhead

    • Less development tools to master (minimal maintenance overhead)

    • Reduced application complexity

  • One stop shopping

    • Oracle offers integration guarantees

  • High performance

    • Tight coupling of data and core business logic within single database repository

    • State full application context state, without scalability compromise

  • Scalability

    • Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC)

  • Proven robustness

    • Track record of reliability & scalability within Pilat Media's own client-base and other similar mission-critical applications (e.g. SAP, Oracle Financials)

  • Platform independent server technology

    • Maximum choice (Linux, UNIX, NT)

  • Very simple network based client run-time installation.

    • No need to manage individual workstations when upgrading release levels (whether deployed in a LAN or CITRIX based configuration)

Reporting
IBMS incorporates a wide range of standard reports; over 150 "canned" reports are currently available in the system; however, off-the-shelf end-user inquiry and reporting tools can be used for independent data retrieval and analysis. It is an open system, easily connectable to new add-ons and neighboring systems. We provide documented database views enabling third party developers to read the IBMS data into their reports and any other application. Internet browser access is available to key business areas of the system (e.g. the Schedule); other functions can easily be redefined for Internet connectivity if required.
