Pilat Media Global plc New Contract Win with ESPN STAR Sports
Information Release: 08 Nov 2006
Pilat Media Global plc. ("Pilat Media" or the "Company"), the London-based AIM-listed supplier of business management software to broadcasters around the world, is pleased to announce the signing of a contract for the supply of its flagship product IBMS to ESPN STAR Sports (ESS), the leading Asian sports broadcaster. Once fully implemented, IBMS will be used as ESS's central business management system, covering the full spectrum of program acquisition, content scheduling, media trafficking and advertising sales. The system will help increase sales and deliver greater operational efficiency across ESS's Asian operations.
Singapore-based ESS is Pilat Media's third major Asian client, following Discovery Networks, Asia (part of Discovery International) and Astro of Malaysia, both already live and using the content programming and the advertising sales modules of IBMS. Pilat Media's Australasian office in Sydney also serves seven clients in Australia and New Zealand.
Commenting on the selection of Pilat Media and what IBMS aims to achieve for ESS, Gloria Dunn, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, ESPN STAR Sports, said, "There is a constant need to enhance our networks' ability to manage advertising sales inventory more efficiently and ensure robust revenue growth across our 13 networks in 24 countries. The IBMS solution from Pilat is a clear choice that will enable us to cater effectively to our ever changing business requirements; essential for a company operating in a dynamic industry as broadcasting."
Commenting on the contract, Avi Engel, Pilat Media's CEO said: "We are very proud to have been selected by such a major sport broadcaster as ESS. This will no doubt help us to expand further in Asia. ESS's need to support a variety of advertising sales models in all its Asian markets, including in countries such as India, will give IBMS the opportunity to prove its functional richness and adaptability once again. We look forward to working with ESS.
"The contract win with ESS will help to underpin 2006 revenues but will mainly contribute to revenues in 2007."
ESPN STAR Sports is a 50:50 joint venture between two of the world's leading cable and satellite broadcasters, ESPN Inc. and STAR, combining the strengths and resources of its ultimate parent companies, Walt Disney (ESPN, Inc.) and News Corporation Limited (STAR). ESS has thirteen networks spanning the region - ESPN Asia, ESPN India, ESPN Taiwan, ESPN Singapore, ESPN Philippines, MBC-ESPN (Korea), ESPN Hong Kong, STAR Sports Hong Kong, Xing Kong Sports, STAR Sports India, STAR Sports Taiwan, STAR Sports S.E.A and STAR Sports Singapore. All feeds are customised to deliver the world's premier sports events, in line with local tastes. ESPN reaches over 145 million households while STAR Sports reaches over 70 million households. On-line, espnstar.com, espnstar.com.cn and espnstar.com.tw interact with millions of users providing them with in-depth sports news, results and competitions. This multilingual, online platform is closely integrated with ESPN and STAR Sports on air networks and has established the sites as the number one on-line sports destination in their respective markets.
ESS is the fifth broadcaster selecting IBMS this year, the previous contract, with a major US network, announced last month. The third new IBMS selection is SBS, the Australian public broadcaster and an existing client of IBMS' content programming modules, which has recently completed a competitive tender and selected IBMS also to support their advertising sales operations. The contracts with BBC World Service and the US station group of Media General Broadcasting were announced earlier this year.
Following the February acquisition of Media Line, the Company's new Dutch subsidiary, three new contracts have been secured in Europe for the smaller scope MediaPro product, with TV Denmark, ATV Austria and PolSat of Poland.
